Diy target wood heart kit

Even though 2021 has just arrived, I am already looking forward to Valentine’s Day! If you didn’t already know, I LOVE holidays, so I am always looking for fun projects to make to celebrate. I found this DIY Wood Heart Kit at Target, and for only $5, I couldn’t pass it up! If you end up picking up a set, here are my recommendations to make the DIY process smoother:

  1. Choose 3 different colors to paint the hearts with, but avoid red so you can use it for the words on the hearts.

  2. Use your own paintbrushes! While it was nice of Target to include a paintbrush, the sizing is a little off. I used a larger brush to paint the wood heart shapes and a thin brush for the wording.

  3. When you are ready to paint the words on each heart, use a transfer method! On your computer type out the phrase you want on each heart and then print them out. Make sure the phrase is small enough that it will fit on the heart! Then on the back of the printed paper, use a pencil to scribble over where the words are. Turn the paper back over, line it up on your heart so the wording is centered, and lightly trace. If you press too hard while tracing, you may leave an indent in the wood, so be careful! Then lightly erase your pencil lines and carefully paint the words using a very thin paintbrush! If you feel nervous about painting, you could also use an acrylic or oil paint marker.

These hearts would be perfect to display in your classroom or at home! They stand up nicely on the side of the heart. If you want to add your own touch, consider using glue to outline the words and pouring red glitter on top! How would you use these hearts?
