DIY Valentine’s Day “Love notes” Mailbox

Some of my best DIY Inspiration comes from the clearance section! I saw this Hearth and Hand by Magnolia “Letters to Santa” mailbox at Target, and knew it was the PERFECT shade of red for a “Love Notes” Mailbox for Valentine’s Day! I decided to give it a makeover, inspired by my friend Rebecca Propes! Rebecca spray painted her “Letters to Santa” mailbox for Christmas and added glitter, pom-poms, and ribbon. I wanted to create a Valentine’s Day version using flowers, ribbon, and paint, but first I needed a solution on how to cover up the “Letters to Santa” wording. Here’s what I used to create mine:

Directions:

  1. Paint the die-cut wood stamp using white acrylic paint (feel free to use a different color!) Sketch out your design for your stamp in pencil. I was inspired by the U.S. Postal Services Love Stamp Designs! Every year, the U.S. Post Office hires a designer to design their Love Stamp! Before painting, be sure to lightly erase your pencil marks.

  2. Paint your design using shades of pink, red, or whatever colors you want to use. For lettering, you can use a Sharpie Oil Marker to make it easier to write the words instead of painting them.

  3. Attach the stamp to your mailbox using E-6000. Glue it on top of the raised wording. Keep in mind, some parts of the “Letters to Santa” may show slightly on the side of the stamp, but it’s not too noticeable!

  4. Take apart the floral stem, removing the flowers and leaves. Using a hot glue gun, attach the leaves to the top left corner of the mailbox. Once you attach the leaves in the corner, hot glue the flowers on top.

  5. If you want to add a little more flair, attach ribbon to the corner as well! You can tie a bow or knot the ribbon and then hot glue behind the flowers.

I’m so happy with how it turned out! Isn’t it cute? I paired it with this Opalhouse Postage Stamp Banner from Target to create the perfect Valentine’s Day display! If you make your own, please share it with me on Instagram!
