As I mentioned in a previous post, my goal this year is to wrap my gifts creatively (aka no more boring bags & boxes!) In addition to avoiding boring wrapping, I’m also ditching sticker gift tags/labels. Sure, they’re convenient, but hand made ones are so much better! Today, I’m going to share with you how you can DIY gift tags for your family and friends this year.
Step One: Shape
Decide what shape you want your tags to be. You can buy pre-cut tags from the Target dollar spot (like I did in the photo above) or cut out shapes out of heavy cardstock. Some shapes you could use are:
- Christmas Trees
- Santa faces
- emoji faces (circles)
- letters (the first letter of the gift receiver’s name)
You can also use different materials for your tag. Target sells metal gift tags which you could carve into or use Sharpies or paint markers to draw on!
Step Two: Design & Decoration
Whether you draw an image, write out a name in fancy style writing, or add glitter, decoration is key! I love using fancy letters and typefaces when writing a name on my gift tags. If you’re having trouble drawing a fancy font, check out this post I recently found on how to fake calligraphy.
Here are some sample tags that inspire me:
