My favorite artist, Andy Warhol, has had his prints featured on many clothes, shoes and other accessories. I’ve started collecting clothing that is inspired by his work.
I am currently teaching art to middle school students and I love my job! I wanted to create my own hashtag for outfits I put together for school, or outfits that are inspired by artists. I enjoy mixing patterns, colors and using my art knowledge to create inspiring outfits. What I love about fashion, is that it IS art. All of the basic knowledge you learn in art class is applied to design clothes. Dressing yourself is giving the world a glimpse of who you are. In a scene from one of my favorite movies of all time, The Devil Wears Prada, the character Nigel explains it best:
“Don’t you know that you are working at the place that published some of the greatest artists of the century? Halston, Lagerfeld, de la Renta. And what they did, what they created was greater than art because you live your life in it.”
You can follow my hashtag #artteacherclothes to see how I combine textures, patterns, colors to create a unified outfit (so many art terms!) If you are a fellow art teacher, join me by adding the #artteacherclothes hashtag to your school outfits! Some of my favorite Instagram teachers who inspire me are: @kait_edington, @myfriendcourt, and of course @cassie_stephenz.
